Aganang FM is a community radio station licensed by ICASA (Independent Communication Authority of South Africa) to operate in the Potchefstroom (Dr Kenneth Kaunda District-North West Province) since 13th April 2009. AganangFM Community Radio Station is a section 21 company and deemed by Companies Act 71 of 1997 as a public service entity. The radio station is registered as a non-profit organization (004 231 NPO) Aganang FM’s mainmandate is to raise awareness, educate, and address socio-economic challenges through broadcasting as a mass media channel. AganangFM is a full spectrum radio station that plays all types of music, with 60 % talk and 40 % music. Our programs are segmented to accommodate News, Current affairs, in calling programs, outside broadcast, workshops and awareness campaigns. The media of instruction is in Setswana, Afrikaans, Sesotho, IsiXhosa and English.
Aganang FM’s target is to attract listeners who are between the ages 14-60 in Potchefstroom and surrounding areas in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda district-North West Province. Aganang FM is a community mass media outlet that provides news and information in an unbiased manner and serves as an imperative resource facility between the members of the community and all organs of the state that provides some sort of public service to the community. Aganang FM is not aligned with any political formations and has established numerous relationships with community based organizations (CBO), youth formations, Non-profit organizations (NGO) and religious faith groups that deal with the social, economic and environmental issues in general and negative ills in particular within our communities.
Aganang FM Golden Mic Awards established in 2009 and strives to recognize the very best of Aganang`s on-air and behind the scenes radio talent. It is the intention of the Awards to ensure that radio talent in all areas receives due recognition, and that talented producers, presenters, news readers as well as managers at Aganang radio stations are motivated to constantly strive towards creating programming that meets the needs of their listener and establishes the relationship between the station and the listener.
This campaign is in a form of a music festival under the name ‘Aganang Fm Family Gathering’ which is one of the events hosted by Aganang FM for the purpose of contributing to poverty alleviation in our communities.
